1962 Chevy C10 Truck

Beware of what you find in skips! Bought from a skip hire company owner, the truck was a fresh import and was delivered in style.

As usual it turned out to be more work than initially imagined, needing new rear electrics and lights...

...new brakes (the rear lines were cut and crimped and one of the front slave cylinders gave up when manoeuvring on the drive)...

...the rear shock top mounts were repaired after having worn the holes to twice the diameter they should have been...

...legs were added to the seat, which had previously rested on the floor.

Had to replace the dynamo, ignigtion switch and water pump too. Figured I was on the home straight, so knowing how those MOT fellers like to poke around your steering I decided to have a closer look. I discovered that pretty much everything that could have worn out had in fact worn out. Apart from the steering box - I hope! Judging by the stash of nuts inside the lower control arms, I reckon the truck probably hadn't been in daily use!

This stuff hadn't been touched in years, so everything was seized to everything else. Still where there's an angle grinder, there's a way.

All the parts where stripped (by hand!) and painted...

...before finally going back on.

Now (December 07) after a long struggle with a crooked control arm bushing it once again has a wheel at each corner.

Fired her up and discovered a core plug had given up the struggle - will this ever end?

And I still need to get new front cab mounts welded in. And the handbrake needs putting together. And the alternator I put in isn't good either. But then, hopefully we'll be up and running and maybe make it to Billing - just one year late.
